Press Forward

  • Press Forward is a nationwide coalition investing more than $500 million to strengthen local newsrooms, close longstanding gaps in journalism coverage, advance public policy that expands access of local news, and aims to scale infrastructure the sector needs to thrive.
  • Press Forward Central PA, launched in 2024, is led by The Steinman Foundation and the Steinman Institute for Civic Engagement to develop local philanthropic support for local news and information.

Lancaster County Local Journalism Fund

  • The Lancaster County Local Journalism Fund supports investigative journalism and media literacy to inform, engage and empower citizens of Lancaster County.
  • The Fund provides initiatives like internship programs, digitizing campaign finance records, and investigative reporting in Lancaster County.

The Blue Green Connector

  • The Blue Green Connector, led by Little Conestoga Creek Foundation and The Steinman Foundation, is one of Lancaster County’s largest environmental restoration projects, aiming to improve water quality, restore ecosystems, and enhance accessibility.

  • The project will create ADA-accessible trails linking neighborhoods to key destinations and provide outdoor learning spaces to foster community engagement and environmental education.

Lancaster County STEM Alliance

  • Funded and launched by The Steinman Foundation, The Lancaster County STEM Alliance (LCSA) is a collective of business, education and community partners ensuring the long-term prosperity of Lancaster County.
  • As leaders in the STEM Funders Network, STEM Ecosystems Community of Practice, and Pennsylvania Statewide STEM Ecosystem, LCSA brings cutting-edge innovations in STEM education and workforce development to Lancaster County.

Inspire Lancaster

  • The Lancaster County STEM Alliance and the Lancaster Chamber have teamed up to create and implement a work-based learning platform for employers, schools, students, and families in Lancaster County.
  • This innovative initiative tackles a key challenge in business-education partnerships: efficiently and effectively connecting employers with schools and students seeking work-based learning opportunities, including apprenticeships, internships, job shadowing, company tours, and mentoring programs.

    The Steinman Institute for Civic Engagement

    • Following the gift of LNP|LancasterOnline to WITF, The Steinman Foundation provided seed funding to establish The Steinman Institute for Civic Engagement (TSI).

    • TSI will strengthen local journalism, support journalist development in Lancaster County, and serve as a laboratory exploring how local media, education, and engagement can enhance civic participation and sustain news models.
